Dil Behcara Movie Review:
The popular 2012 book “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green has been adapted into a Hindi movie called “Dil Bechara.” In reality, the book’s identically named Hollywood version in 2016 received positive reviews from critics.
We meet the Basu family in “Dil Bechara,” which is situated in Jamshedpur. Kizie Basu (Sanjana Sanghi), who has thyroid cancer that has spread to her lungs, must nearly always be supported by oxygen. With her parents’ unwavering support, Kizie accepts life as it comes, including the grim, daily repeated hospital appointments. But what she really wants is a typical existence like any other girl her age, with with typical issues like relationships, crushes, and so on. Instead, she decides to go to strangers’ funerals in order to feel a connection to the inevitability that awaits her. She first meets Manny (Sushant Singh Rajput), also known as Immanuel Rajkumar Junior, at college. Later, they cross paths at a cancer support group. She is first apprehensive of his great energy, excitement, and cockiness due to her quiet, introverted character. Manny has a unique tale to tell; he overcame osteosarcoma and is currently in remission from cancer.
Despite Kizie’s best efforts to save Manny from heartbreak, the two develop a wonderful bond as a captivated Manny succeeds to win her heart. As they ride his scooter around the narrow alleyways of Jamshedpur, you start to like their adorable connection. Additionally, they collaborate on a Bhojpuri movie that will be directed by Manny’s close buddy Jagdish Pandey (Sahil Vaid), whose cancer treatment would cause him to lose his vision. Manny realizes she has fallen in love with him as she resolves to go all out to satisfy Kizie’s long-held goal of seeing her favorite musician, Abhimanyu Vaid (Saif Ali Khan). She had no idea, however, that the story will take a terrible turn.
Given its heartbreaking premise, “Dil Bechara” is a highly emotional film to watch. The underlying moral of the story—celebrating life while realizing death is inevitable—gives it a contagious spirit. Particularly when it comes to Manny’s persona, who literally wants to seize every second of the day.
Sushant Singh Rajput gives a standout performance that is delicate, intense, vivacious, and vulnerable while navigating the complexity of his character. One watches him with a heavy heart as he masterfully inhabits his role and radiates charisma from within. With this, the talented actor furthers the legacy of his excellent work within a little period of time. And keep an eye out for his incredible choreography in the single title track.
Sanjana Sanghi, who is making her acting debut in a prominent role, delivers a confident, polished performance. The supporting cast is excellent, with Saif Ali Khan’s cameo standing out in particular. Swastika Mukherjee and Saswata Chatterjee are excellent as Kizie’s parents. Khulke Jeene Ka, Taare Ginn, and the title tune, Dil Bechara, are some of the great, foot-tapping songs on the soundtrack (written by A.R. Rahman with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya). It’s energizing to observe the relationship between the leads, especially in the parts in Paris, which Satyajit Pande’s cinematography captures well.
The story moves smoothly thanks to the direction of Mukesh Chhabra and the writing of Suprotim Sengupta and Shashank Khaitan, leading you through some heartfelt exchanges between Kizie and Manny and Kizie and her parents. And be ready for some emotionally wrenching conversations and scenes that will undoubtedly make you cry.
You will be overcome with emotion and have a lump in your throat as the end credits roll, despite the fact that the movie’s spirit and easygoing pace triumph. The song “Dil Bechara” will be regarded as Sushant Singh Rajput’s farewell performance. Simply to see Sushant Singh Rajput’s final scene, watch this movie. And a very good one at that.
The film was directed by Mukesh Chhabra, who made his bollywood debut with the movie. Suprotim Sengupta wrote the screenplay for the film. It revolves around two cancer patients – Kizie and Manny. Kizie is a young woman who has cancer, and she gets to meet a cancer survivor named Manny. They fall in love and begin a journey of emotional healing.
Dil Bechara has an underwhelming storyline and would have failed to do well in the cinemas. However, the death of Sushant Singh Rajput will help the film succeed on streaming services like Netflix. The film could have done extremely well in the actor’s home state of Bihar. It could have also landed the star a starring role in a mainstream film. This is why the budget for the film is so low – just Rs 25 crore!
Despite the low budget of the film, it has been estimated to earn at least Rs 100 Crore if released in theatres. However, due to a coronavirus outbreak, the film was instead released on OTT platforms and managed to make a profit of 12 Crore. The film has become one of the best selling Bollywood movies. This means that the movie has a budget of around Rs 25-30 crore.
In addition, the film’s budget has been significantly reduced, with the movie having a limited number of screens. However, this is a benefit for the producers as it allows them to focus on the film’s marketing strategy. The film is reportedly able to reach at least 50 million subscribers on the streaming service. If it had been released theatrically, it would have broken box office records. However, Disney and Hotstar haven’t revealed the official figures, but if it had, it would have surpassed Avengers: Endgame’s record with more than 100 million likes on Facebook alone.
The movie has already made millions of dollars. Since the movie is free to watch on Disney+ and Hotstar, it has already earned a profit of about 12 crore. In addition to the digital rights, the film has also sold the movie’s music and TV rights for a combined total of around fifty crore dollars. In addition, the movie has also generated a healthy amount of money for Star India and Hotstar, and its profits are projected to increase.
